Me and the other winners

“I’m really happy to have been awarded the J!Otto 2025 this year – the prize for outstanding Joomla! websites – and even twice.”

The award was presented at this year’s JoomlaDay in Bad Krotzingen and recognizes websites that excel in design, technology, user experience, and accessibility. Each year, the Joomla community presents the J!Otto, which is evaluated by a professional jury. This year, I was able to impress with my projects madonna.eV in the category “medium websites” as well as heb-hagen.de in the category “accessible websites”.

A holistic approach

This award is a valuable confirmation of my work. Knowing that my projects convinced the jury shows me that the approach I follow truly works. I’m especially happy that my holistic way of combining accessibility, content strategy, design, and user experience (UX) is so effective. The path isn’t always easy, because you first have to communicate that all these aspects belong together and shouldn’t be treated separately.

My goal is always to create user-friendly, fast, and technically solid solutions that are also visually appealing, sustainable, and genuinely useful for the people who visit the sites. A great example of this is the website of the Hagen waste management service (heb-hagen.de). It’s not only fully accessible, but also gives citizens clear, easy-to-find information about waste disposal in the city — quickly and effortlessly.

The second award was given to me for the website of Madonna e.V. The site is aimed at people working in sex work and offers a user-friendly platform with extensive support and valuable information. For over three decades, the association has been operating as an independent counseling center, supporting individuals in both professional and personal matters. Madonna e.V. advocates for equal treatment of sex work compared to other professions and for the destigmatization of sex workers, while also offering assistance for those looking to exit the field or further professionalize their work.

I’m delighted

Both projects were a lot of fun to work on. The award shows me that my work is appreciated — and honestly, it feels great to see the quality of my work being recognized.

For me, Joomla is the ideal tool to build accessible, fast, sustainable, and beautiful websites — and this success reinforces that I’m on the right track with this philosophy.
