My journey into Joomla and CMS
More than 20 years ago, I was faced with the decision to move my static pages to a content management system. After a lengthy evaluation, I came across Mambo. At that time, it was still a small system with manageable code.
I soon realised the system's weakness: an accessible output of the content was not possible. So I became involved in Mambo's design and accessibility team and wrote the first core hack that enabled accessible output of content. To this day, accessibility remains a big concern for me.
Joomla: A platform with a wide range of features
In mid-2005, Joomla was created, the outcome of a fork of Mambo. Today, Joomla is one of the world's most widely used open-source content management systems. This is due in no small part to its ease of use and range of features.
As a developer and designer, template design is crucial for me. Templates determine a page's look and feel and control the content's output. As with Mambo, I am also a member of the Joomla team, and my responsibility was to design and develop accessibility standards for the Beez template in Joomla 2.5. Currently, I am a member of the Joomla 4 Experience and the Joomla Accessibity Team and involved in the user experience of this version.
Over the years, the modest code of those early years has evolved into the sophisticated, professional platform we see today and is now widely used throughout the professional sector. Watching this development and contributing my experience to the platform's further development gives me great satisfaction. And I am happy to share my knowledge with you and advise you on implementing your content management system.
